作为注重工作过程而非一次性展示工作成果的项目，“OCAT工作室”从2006年第一期开始至今，一直尝试着与驻地者共同工作和共处的各种方式和方案。一方面是来自不同语境和领域的艺术工作者在同一期项目期间作为邻居，展开延续各自工作脉络并链接其在深圳的体验和融入（或不融入）；一方面是个体的独立工作及于这段时间和这个空间共同相处的发生和生成。

当今世界将深圳视为中国改革开放后诞生的奇迹，并借机为其贴标签，似乎在为这一座年轻的城市划出某种社会性构想以及意识形态。但与此同时，对深圳的标签化和地图面积的去具体化（虚拟意义上的；地理上的）也在同时进行当中。拨开这些“光环”，在今年为期三个月（9至11月）的“OCAT工作室”的框架中，来自北美地区的四位视觉、影像、策展实践者克里斯·滨本（三藩市），费尔德雷克·佩雷斯·维洛罗（墨西哥市），罗宝（洛杉矶/香港）和卢恒（温哥华/多伦多）带来了多维和各异的在场视角。在本次名为“一场有关深圳的回响”的“OCAT工作室”项目最后一周中，他们以深圳的或从深圳产生的或因为来到深圳这个城市的语境为契机抑或出发点，从人文情感和科技发展的角度探讨城市的演变，进而促进与其他地区（比如他们本身所在的城市或他们此次驻地项目期间前往考察的城市等）的联网和共同性。通过讲座、对谈、展览、放映等形式来与大家面对面交流他们此次驻地的阶段性工作总结，“回响”化为一场开放性和持续性的论坛——它极有可能是富有挑战性的，但也为我们细微地察看经济快速增长的背景下的人类生活提供了机会。我们邀请大家一起加入这场为期一周的漫谈。

二人设计师艺术家组合克里斯和费尔德雷克的作品自2015年以来调查和研究了新兴技术对当代文化和政治的影响，这当中包括了以电脑为基础的媒介、出版物、录像、写作和教育倡议。罗宝是一位纪录片导演，感兴趣于寻找新的美学方式来描述都市环境中人类与其他物种的生活（命），她的工作旨在通过电影拓展观看者关于伦理的和感知的思考范围，而不被所处的阶级、文化和物种所局限。卢恒出生并成长于深圳，他的策展实践和相关美学研究着重探索种族和社会形式的身份，旨在在不同代的艺术从业者之间创造新的对话，并在当代经济和政治背景下重新探索和关注艺术家的话语权和自发性的艺术行为。

回响于上述今参与者们的工作呈现及交流讨论，我们还特别设计了一个24小时免费取阅和互换的“小型图书馆”装置（安装于OCAT展厅户外），欢迎任何人前来交换各种文本信息，并期待由此延展的互动。

Focused on processes rather than results, the OCAT Residency program has been experimenting with various methods of creative, collective working and strategies of co-existing of its researchers-in-residence. Since its first iteration in 2006, artistic and cultural practitioners from a wide range of contexts and disciplines, although being neighbours with one another, have been encouraged to conduct their independent research, linking their experiences in/of Shenzhen in the process.

Shenzhen has been regarded by the world as a miracle that came out of China's Reform and Opening Up in the 1980s. Seemingly as attempts to label the city by determining its character, social constructions, ideals and ideologies are being imagined and theorized. At the same time, however, the labelling of Shenzhen and the deconstruction of its geographical boundaries (virtually and physically) are also being carried out. Perhaps considering what Shenzhen is, isn't, and could be, which is the framework of the 2019 OCAT Residency program (running from September to November), four artists and curators based out of North America, Chris Hamamoto (San Francisco), Federico Pérez Villoro (Mexico City), Elizabeth Lo (Los Angeles/Hong Kong) and Henry Heng Lu (Vancouver/Toronto) have brought together multidimensional and diverse perspectives of some of the issues and concerns relevant to our contemporary urban life. Additionally, through the lens of humanistic and technological developments, they explore the evolution of cities built on connectivity and commonality. Comprised of a range of activities, including seminars, talks, exhibitions, and film screenings, An Echo of Discursion: Shenzhen is an open (hopefully sustainable) forum for discussion and participation. While potentially challenging, it is also an opportunity to look closely at what constitutes who we are, against the backdrop of rapid economic growth. We invite everyone to join this one-week discursion.

Artist duo Chris Hamamoto & Federico Pérez Villoro have been working together since 2015. Their work investigates the impact of emerging technologies in contemporary culture and politics. It often includes computer-based media, publications, video, writing, and educational initiatives. Elizabeth Lo is a documentary filmmaker who is interested in finding new, aesthetic ways of depicting human and nonhuman life within urban landscapes. Her work seeks to expand viewers’ circles of moral and perceptual consideration beyond their own class, culture, and species through film. Henry Heng Lu is of the first generation born and raised in Shenzhen under the influence of China’s Reform and Opening Up. An ongoing exploration of ethnic and social forms of identity, his curatorial research and practice seeks to create new dialogues amongst different generations of artistic practitioners and examine their agencies in the context of contemporary economic and political developments.

Echoing the presentation and exchange aspects of the programs and exhibitions as part of An Echo of Discursion: Shenzhen, we would also like to extend our invitation to everyone to visit the free 24/7 "Small Library/Resource Centre" (installed outside the entrance of OCAT Exhibition Hall A) that we have specially assembled, for material exchange and knowledge sharing.

The boom of large shopping malls is a product of economic development. These ubiquitous, similarly decorated shopping malls have become part of our urban life. Their interiors tend to be blank, hollow – and even lonely.

Here in this photograph, the lens faces the back of an animatronic dinosaur (signaling an artificial timeline or a constructed history), referencing a look back into the past. However, the dinosaur is installed as part of an amusement facility for children inside a shopping mall, and that points to a playful expression of reality.
